National Student Money Week
This week, 8th - 12th February, sees the launch of the 6th National Student Money Week (NSMW), run by the National Association of Student Money Advisers (NASMA). This year, the theme is Students, Money and Mental Health.
A number of studies examining UK based young people (1) have shown that mental health problems are linked to financial problems, concern about finances, levels of debt and concern about debt. Through National Student Money Week, NASMA campaigns to give students information and support to minimise anxiety, stress and depression linked to concerns about finances.
During the week-long campaign, student money advisers will reach out to as many students as possible, focusing on raising awareness about where students can go for help with managing their money and making informed financial decisions. Educational institutions across the country will be hosting a range of activities in support of these issues - these include drop in sessions, quizzes, information hubs and promoting key information via social media.
NASMA's Chair's comments
NASMA’s Chair, Rob Ellis, said: “NASMA’s mission is to relieve the poverty of students through the promotion, provision and support of professional money advice for students in the Further and Higher Education sectors. National Student Money Week provides a special focus to publicise what help is available and raise the profile of the work NASMA do in supporting students across the UK.”
