Perspectives on poverty
Poverty is key issue in the UK today. Despite being one of the world's largest economies, 13 million people live in poverty, including 3.6 million children – and the numbers are rising.
The reasons why people fall into financial hardship are complex. Joseph Rowntree Foundation, a leading social policy research and development charity, has published a series of reviews looking at poverty from four different perspectives - economic, philosophical, psychological and sociological.
The aim of the review is to inform debate, highlight important factors and make recommendations about the foundations on which an effective anti-poverty strategy for the UK should be based.
