Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100

Turn2us had two riders who completed the event, Simon Pearce and our own Geoffrey Roper (an analyst in our finance team) who at 75 was one of the oldest to finish!

Geoffrey

Geoffrey (Rider no 33800) like many of the riders,  took two allowed detours, omitting some of the Surrey hills, and completed the ride in over an hour less than the allowed time of 8 hours and 30 minutes. Geoffrey really got round in style and was encouraged on the way by Micky and Zena from Turn2us at mile 18. He was then met by his sister at Hampton Court before being reunited with his daughter Ludy – his personal photographer for the day – at the finish on The Mall.

Geoffrey said: ‘It was great to ride with 25,000 on the London-Surrey on a beautiful day of high summer. The rivers Thames, Wey and Mole make a lovely landscape.

I’m grateful for all the support, I took a decision to cut out the stiff hill climbs to ensure I would finish the ride by the finishing time - but it's surprising how beautiful and tranquil the A25 between Abinger Hammer and Dorking and the A24 between Dorking and Leatherhead are with no motor traffic.’

Simon

Simon Pearce (Rider no 33799) also did wonderfully, completing the full 100 mile distance in a total time of 7 hours and 14 mins. Simon said he found the hills tough going but he completed the full distance in a fabulous time and has vowed to carry on cycling for Turn2us to raise both funds and awareness.

Simon said: ‘I enjoyed myself but it was hard work! I chose to ride for Turn2us as I know the effect of a loss of financial stability, having lost all my possessions and family for a time. Having experienced what it is to have very little, I just want to share what I have.

‘I am really looking forward cycling more for Turn2us, to raise both funds and awareness. I might try a couple more sportifs. But my aim is to exceed 365 miles for Turn2us in 2015 – a mile a day for a year.’
