UK braces itself for more severe weather

Much of the UK is bracing itself for more severe weather this weekend. Authorities are saying temperatures could fall as low as -10° and bring almost two feet of snow in the Scottish Highlands, with flurries expected further south next week.
 
Earlier this week, the Met Office reissued severe weather warnings for Scotland and Northern Ireland, where more than three inches of rain fell, while official figures (link to BBC News item) showed that December 2015 was the wettest month in history.
