Household Support Fund

The Household Support Fund (initially worth 500 million) was set up in September 2021 to support people on low incomes recovering from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and respond the rising costs of living, in particular energy and food during the winter. (1) This funding covered 6 October 2021 - 31 March 2022.

England

In England, the money was given to local councils.to distribute to people most in need in their areas. Councils may have used this  money to extend the reach of their welfare assistance schemes or set up additional schemes for people in need in their area.

Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

The devolved governments of Wales, Scotland and  Northern Ireland received a percentage of this money and it was up to them to decide what to do with this funding to help people struggling with costs of living. 

Further Funding

Tne a further £500 million was announced in the Spring Statement in March 2022. (2)  This will cover 1 April - 30 September 2022.

England

Two-thirds of the funding will be used to help families with children and pensioners.. 

The remaining third will be given to local authorities to help people in their areas.

Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

The devolved governments of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will receive a percentage to use to help people in their countries.
